We always prefer to believe it only happens to “other people.” Every day individuals face upsetting news…sickness…jobs go away…accidents happen. However, what is happening in North Alabama was no accident. Industry and civic authorities have failed their citizens. Contamination of our Tennessee River is going on daily legally. It’s no longer happening only to “other people” in “other places”. My home, my family, and my community is contaminated. This is where I am capturing the information as I learn.
Who am I? I’m simply a private citizen in a community that has ongoing contamination of PFC’s in our environment. A range of chemical contamination identified as PFOA and PFOS and their family in our water system, our soil, and our citizens. I’m a business owner, a land owner, a tax payer, a wife, and a mother. I live just outside of a small community called Trinity in Northern Alabama. What’s happening in my home is happening in homes all over America. Unsuspecting families are drinking contaminated water, they are fishing in contaminated rivers, creeks, and eating food grown in contaminated soils. The government knows. The state knows. The EPA knows and the industries know. They’ve been studying it for years and quietly allowing it to continue. In Alabama’s case, with knowledge and permits to organizations doing the dumping.
This is our on-going story and resources that we are putting together for our family as we discover information and learn more about what is happening. Please consider joining our community to fight for clean water for North Alabama and your community.
